About the Australian Liveability Census

Every two years Place Score facilitates Australia’s largest social research project – the Australian Liveability Census. We partner with local and state governments, the private sector and not-for-profit organisations to invite the Australian community to share what is important to them and how local neighbourhoods are performing. Our objective was to understand liveability from the perspective of our nation’s diverse population and provide decision-makers with the evidence base to enhance the lives of local communities.

Since 2019, over 180,000 responses have been collected to build the country’s largest social research data set, with the results being utlised for decision-making, reporting, planning and communications.

The 2025 Australian Liveability Census will open on Neighbour Day, Sunday 30th March 2025 and close on 30 June 2025.

Liveability in 2023

Launched on National Neighbour Day, Sunday 26th March 2023 until Friday 30th June 2023, the 2023 Australian Liveability Census collected over 90,000 responses were collected from residents of every state and territory. Place Score would like to thank all our local and state government partners, corporate and not for profit supporters, and community groups who came together to ensure that local experts will continue to provide the local expertise needed to understand and improve liveability for all.
The results provide an unparalleled opportunity to understand the impacts of covid, climate change and the economy on our community’s everyday lives.
